About Me

Melissa Hoyt, M.A., LPC

Hi! I’m Melissa and I’m glad you’re here.

My training began in 2009 as a masters-level intern at a Phoenix-based treatment center. The clinical team treated residential and outpatient adults struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. I was immediately drawn to the work…and the people.

In 2010, I earned a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling. Since then, I have held clinical positions ranging from residential primary therapist to clinical director. Along the way, I started a private practice and within a couple of years I transitioned to that setting full-time.

Early in my career, I developed a special interest in trauma. Specifically, complex trauma (C-PTSD), family of origin wounds, narcissistic abuse, attachment issues and addiction. Subsequently, in 2014, I completed Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training and began incorporating it into practice.

Therapeutic Interests

My goal as a trauma-informed therapist is to incorporate elements from various evidenced-based techniques throughout treatment. Depending on the issue and the client’s feelings, I regularly draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), attachment theory, family systems, psychodynamic, strength-based, and mindfulness coaching.

Therapeutic Approach

You can expect me to be direct yet compassionate in our sessions. There will be laughter and sometimes there will be tears, but through it all, you will transform. Facing life’s challenges becomes a lot easier with the right support. I’m committed to being that support for you!

Therapeutic Style

Life doesn’t make any sense without interdependence. We need each other, and the sooner we learn that, the better for us all.
